Rātu - Tuesday 7th September

Ata mārie e te whānau

Welcome to our last day in the Cosy Cubby. With the announcement of us going into level 2 we have no more need for online learning. Tomorrow is a teacher only day for us to prepare for what learning will look like at level 2, we haven't been given all the information yet but it will be as close to normal as we can achieve while also following the regulations put in place to adhere to the requirements of being in level 2. Thank you for coming along on this journey with me as we have navigated learning from home, I appreciate how relaxed you have all been in response to the content I have set, it has made my job a lot easier during this time, a sincere and heartfelt thank you.

From my bed office I can see through to the yard and it looks like a gloriously sunny day. I am going to make the most of my last day home with my children, it will be weird getting up and leaving them tomorrow morning. I am feeling incredibly grateful for this time at home with them, forced to live slowly, to be present and not have to race away to another commitment. Ash is off to install the bathroom tiles today, not long until we can move back into our own home and this time where everything was different will become a distant memory. I am hoping to take some of what we have currently back into our normal lives.

How are you feeling about life resuming some normality? Some of you will be looking forward to it, others may feel anxious, some may be like me and grieving this time at home with our children. Whatever it is that you are feeling, acknowledge your thoughts and trust that your children will be happy and safe back at school with their friends and of course, myself who can't wait to see my other 30 children again!

Enough thoughts and ramblings for today...

Literacy

Well done Mattia, who has sent through some photos of the words he has made on Friday last week and yesterday...

I am going to give you a word. Can you change the beginning sound/letter to make other words?

Example:
/t/op - /m/op - /p/op - /h/op - /c/op - /l/op - /s/op.

Your word is man, how many 3 letter words can you make that end in an-?

Extra for experts, can you change the final sound/letter to make words? How many 3 letter words can you make that start with ma-?

Example:
to/p/ - to/g/ - to/w/ - to/y/

Maths

Today's activity is a number hunt

The purpose of this task is to help your child to:
• notice numbers around them
• recognise numbers from 0 to 9 (the numerals/digits)
• write numbers from 0 to 9 The idea is that your child goes on a hunt looking for (spotting) numbers in and around your home.

• Have your child predict which number they think they might see most often and say why.
• As your child goes on their ‘hunt’, have them keep track of their finds by writing the number on the chart in the correct place.
• Your child could also ‘spot’ (put a dot on) the places where they find a number.
• Can they fill a line? Which number do they ‘spot’ the most?
• Talk with them about the numbers they find and where they find them
